High Tack/Low Tack Tapes

Tapes with a permanent adhesive on one side and a removable adhesive on the other are regularly used for window posters, point of sale offers and for samples attached to the fronts of magazines.

High tack/low tack tape allows membership cards to be cleanly removed from letter without any damage.

Nameplate and Laminating Tapes

The sharp growth in using self adhesive Nameplates rather than traditional screwed-on or riveted panels has required tape manufacturers to respond with ever higher performance products. A range of double coated and adhesive transfer tapes is available which will adhere to most substrates, either textured or smooth for a permanent bond.

Die Cuttability

These products can be converted into various formats such as labels, gaskets, overlays, spacers etc. Different weights of liner make die cutting easy irrespective of size or shape.

Plate Mounting & Splicing Tapes

Stereo Plate Mounting Tapes

Flexographic Tape System

An effective tape has to perform at three key stages in the plate mounting process

Removal
Removal of the plate from the tape without damage, then the tape from the cylinder. This means faster mounting and removal, without the use of solvents, faster running speeds and a closer control of solids, lines and dots. Our specialist adhesives have the right tape density and give you the right result every time.

Positioning

Allows the plate to be precisely set and repositioned if necessary

Bonding

Holding the plate precisely in position however long the print run

We offer a full range of PVC, Soft PVC, Cloth and Cushion mount tape from 2 thou. to 80 thou.

Splicing Tapes

A complete range of splicing tape is available, both in single, double sided and repulpable forms.

Used in paper and board making and in the print industry where splice failures can cost thousands in machine down time. When making splices whether permanent or temporary, core starting, or in pre-press processes, the need is always the same - high quality dependable splices every time.

Our highly experienced staff would be pleased to advise you of the best product for your particular application.

The well proven hydrodispersible adhesives used in repulpable tapes are needed in the Paper Mill, where waste may be returned to the broke without the need to remove splices, and in print use where paper waste recycling is too important for cost conscious newspapers and printers to ignore.

Foam Tapes

Double Sided Foam Tapes are available in a variety of adhesive/foam combinations to match your special needs. The foam carriers are conformable and flexible and are ideal for gap filling and bonding irregular surfaces.

Foam tapes not only bond, they also cushion joints against shock-loads and provide sound and vibration damping. They can provide an effective thermal seal between cold metals and warmer plastics. They are used in a number of industries including electrical and electronics, metal fabricating, furniture, signs and displays.

Typical Applications

  • Glazing
  • Engineering
  • Electrical and telecommunications
  • Automotive
  • Railway carriage manufacture
  • Ships and building

High Bond Tapes

Very High Bond Tapes

These tapes possess a number of properties which provide an important advance in assembly.

  • A very high bond strength which replaces rivets, bolts, welds and other mechanical fixings.
  • Virtually invisible bonds for better appearance and less surface re-finishing.
  • Ability to use thinner, lighter and even disimilar materials.
  • Seals against the environment.
  • Helps to cut costs and increase productivity.

3M™ VHB Tapes are widely used in a number of industries.

Signing

VHB tapes can replace rivets and bolts producing a good looking sign with a smooth undistorted surface.

Construction

Used in many areas of this industry again to save time and the cost of rivets, screws and other mechanical fastening systems.

Transportation

Rivets in panel assembly can be replaced by VHB tape saving assembly time and cost.

Surface Preparation using 3M™ Products

To obtain optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and well unified. Typical surface cleaning solvents are 3M™ VHB™ Cleaners, a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water or heptane. Be sure to follow solvent manufacturer's directions for use and precautionary warnings when using solvents.

After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows into the surface. At room temperature approximately 50% of the ulimate strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. In some cases bond strength can be increased and ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly by exposure to elevated temperatures (e.g. 70C for 1 hour). This provides better adhesive wetout onto subtrates.
Electronics Metal and Plastic Fabrication

3M™ VHB™ tapes help to speed up the assembly process. Tape has resiliency and gap-filling properties and also protects against moisture and dust. Other properties of this tape:

  • Absorbs impact
  • Withstands very high temperatures
  • Resists plasticizer migration

In this industry 3M™ VHB™ tapes offers the following benefits:

  • Replaces spot welding and resists temperature
  • Bonds immediately to pre-painted metals
  • Keeps out harsh environments
  • Bonds to high strength
